I have just tried this on my squares and it has improved them no end! I have heard of slipping 1st stitch knit-wise but never found this much improvement - but the purl slip st really makes a difference, I am enjoying learning techniques through knit-a square- learning as well as being useful!

This is a great idea. I just posted a blog about how many stitches to cast on depending on your gauge. So my question is, (duh) do you need to cast on 2 more stitches when you slip the first and last?
