Standards and Guidelines Booklet Online!

I found a great website for American knitters. (Possibly others too!)
http://www.yarnstandards.com/
They have a downloadable PDF file on the Standards and Guidelines for Crochet and Knitting, compiled by Craft Yarn Council of America.
It has:
*abbreviations used in both knit and crochet patterns
*standard body measurements and sizing
*standard yarn weight measurements
*list of hook/needle sizes
*yarn label information and more!
This is from the first page of their guidelines...they might be worth looking into to help figure out a standard pattern for those knitting squares:
"Ultimately, our objective is to design global standards and guidelines that will be used by companies worldwide. To this end, we have reached out to individuals, manufacturers and trade associations in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, France, as well as in Australia and New Zealand to ask for their input." - Craft Yarn Council of America
