Number of Stitches, Yarn Weight, Needle Size Squares

I've tried various needle sizes, number of stitches and yarn weight to knit the 8x8 square and finally settled on the size 10 recommended but requires 4 extra stitches 36 instead of 32 when using 4 Medium weight merino wool yarn... unless I use a bulky yarn the pattern doesn't work out and then it required less than 32 stitches.... so this is a lot of trial and error guess work.....
