Acrylic and 4 plyNEW by: Sandy
Sorry everyone that I did not reply before - these comments were buried a bit under a mound of correspondence. As long as the squares measure as close to 8 x 8" and they are cosy and warm, please send them. We will have enough squares to match like to like, and if they are a bit thick, the warmer the child will be.
Australian 8 ply is thickish and has been described as chunky by some. We are still unravelling (!) this whole issue and there is some discussion going on in the forum which you can access from the home page. Hope you get this message - Sandy

yarnNEW by: Verolene
I have a closet of acrylic 4 ply yarn just setting there. I am allergic to wool. So will my using what I have create any problems? Should I use 2 strands? Or is the 4 ply U.S. sufficient. Most of it is Red Heart Brand. Collected over years of both knit and crochet. I am excited about this project and have 7 squares I did the last 2 days in Peaches and Cream Cotton thread doubled.

I am on the same page as you...but I think I will go ahead and mail the thicker ones I have made, two strands of wool from Bernet. The wool I bought today seems thinner so two strands won't be as thick. If many of us send squares, then the ladies who put them together can match up the squares as to size and thickness. I am like you...or whoever said it...it seems that the thicker the warmer and that is the purpose. I can't imagine that any square will be tossed...a use will be found for each one. ;>)
