Needle gauges
by: Jenny Hetherington

I found the references to needle size in your instructions rather confusing.

I don't know what needle gauge countries around the world use to size their needles, but I would imagine coountries that use the metric system would use the "mm" size. It might be an idea to send out an email to members and ask them what gauge is used in their countries. This would do away with having to mention Oz, Eng, Can, US.

I want to be on record that we, in Canada, use the metric system, i.e, the mm gauge.

I hope this suggestion may be of some usefulness to you. I would be pleased to help you compile this information. Please contact me if you are interested.

Wrong measures
by: Sandy

Hello Jen

Thanks for pointing this metre/yard discrepancy out. I will make those alterations on the site. You are right, two metres or two yards are much the same and should be more than ample to leave on the square.

Sorry that your first square did not work. The needle size recommended is 6 mm, which if you cast on 32 stitches should create an 8 inch square. As is being discussed here, up till now no one seemed entirely certain as to whether USA worsted is the same as 8 ply Australian.

I have received many wonderful contributions on this issue, and will be compiling the definitive chart very soon.

In the meantime I hope you will be happy to crochet squares using the pattern Jill supplied on the crochet a square page put up yesterday.

Thanks again for pointing out that error - oops! math was never my strong point.
