Ladies at Mountain View Community Church in Ramona, California

Mountain View Community Church Ramona, California

Hello, My name is Isobelle Sulin and I first heard about Knit-a-square.com from my friend Sharon Cargo (the lady in the picture with red hair). We are members of the church music team and she told me all about what is needed. I started knitting during our music practices and then at every opportunity I could get. Watching TV, waiting for my girls at dancing practice, art lessons, at the pool etc.

I emigrated to South Africa from Scotland when I was 11 years old, my family moved there because of my father's job. I knew first hand about the terrible poverty and Aids in Southern Africa, having lived in South Africa, visiting Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Bophuthatswana and Botswana.

I immediately thought that this was a good idea, something tangible that could be done to help. I then found your ezines and read them and later saw squares that I had knitted, made into a blanket. I then knew for sure that the squares WERE getting to where they were needed and this has encouraged me and others to spread the word more.

From there our group has grown to about 10 ladies (including my Mum who is a very fast knitter). We are all knitting up a storm! My twin daughters, who are nine, are also knitting scarfs. I am the lady standing at the back wearing the floral dress.

Thank you for starting something and seeing it through, going to the places where you are finding needs and letting us know how we can help. My daughters and I are now sewing some flannel blankets for the July challenge and they are realising how fortunate they are and that they should give to the needy.

Well done on what you have achieved so far with Knit-a-square, I am excited to be part of it and looking forward to seeing what is needed next!
