keeping up on a pledge

I told Sandy nearly two weeks ago (today being march 11) that I would knit a square a day.

Now this would lead me to knit in some strange places - on the bus, on the subway, and in class are the most frequent ones. Knitting in the spare time at my dance classes has also happened. In front of the TV, the computer, on the phone, studying - any few minutes I can get.

Of course, knitting a square a day means I am knitting quite frequently, and it's starting to turn some heads and questions in my direction. My professor was the first person to ask me about it, and she asked for the information to the site and has since emailed me saying that she has asked her mom to set her up with a pair of needles and some yarn. Just yesterday a classmate asked me to teach her, and now she is determined to get involved as well.

I am one person. If I knit one square a day for a year, I can just nearly make 10 blankets. a very small contribution at best. But the message I am slowly trying to get across to my class of 30-something students is that if we all knitted a square a day for a year, that's about 273 blankets.
