Two easy and free knitting patterns for our own GO-OVER™
Download these two easy and free knitting patterns, for knit-a-square's own, warm and simple GO-OVER™ dedicated to making orphans and abandoned children super warm even on the coldest day. They have been designed and tested by Zanny Blew and Anne Powell and donated to knit-a-square's
knitting project
to make sure that even if you are a beginner you can make a GO-OVER™ from these easy knitting patterns. While they make a stylish garment as you can see on Katie (right and Cressida, below), both Anne and Zanny were more concerned that the garments arriving in South Africa were not large enough to go over the layers of clothing the children wear to try to keep warm.
Now they have solved this by creating the GO-OVER™ made up of 4 x 8" squares front and back and then fitted with roomy sleeves. To cater for our older children Zanny has crocheted around the edge of 8" squares to make them 10" squares, as you can see below. These will be like wearing a blanket, which many of our children need to do as they often spend much time outdoors on bitterly cold days. Many of them wear all the clothes they own to keep warm. Not only will the GO-OVER™ keep them warm it will give them something warm to wear on wash days! If you are learning how to knit, need to practise, or are an another one of our
easy and free knitting patterns,
the 'square vest'. Then please send it to Africa to add to our efforts to keep the millions of orphans, as a result of AIDS in Africa, warm.
The full extent of the tragedy of AIDS in Africa remains mostly hidden as these millions of children battle to survive, often with no family love, inadequate shelter, education and no warmth. If you knit, you can help with the last.Do please download these easy and free knitting patterns for the GO-OVER™, both with beginner knitting instructions by filling in this form. If you are a more advanced knitter, you can be as creative as you like with the pattern.
As with the blankets made out of the 8" squares, the children will treasure these garments for their colours and patterns as much as for the warmth that they will give them. Click here for the
posting instructions.
