Confused by yarn weight, needle gauge, etc?

by Sabrina
(Ft. Bragg, NC, USA)

I am not very good at math. That being said, I have found the easiest way to ensure I get an 8" x 8" square is to create a template I can use reuse so that all of my squares are exactly the same size regardless of yarn weight or gauge of needle or hook. Simply measure, using a ruler, an 8 x 8" square onto sturdy cardboard; cut out using an exacto knife or box cutter. To make sure the edges of template are straight you could also use a paper cutter & posterboard instead of cardboard.
