8 inch cobble block pattern

by jill
(sparta, nj, usa)

I found this pattern on www.halfknits.com and adapted it to an 8 inch square which has texture yet is closed and somewhat tightly crocheted. It is as follows:

Materials: 1 oz. worsted weight wool yarn, size G or H hook
Finished size: 8 inches square

Directions:

Chain 26
Row 1: Single crochet in the second chair from hoo, single crochet in each stitch across, chain 1 and turn. (25 stitches)
Row 2: Single crochet in the first stitch *triple crochet in the next stitch, single crochet in the next stitch* across, chain 1, turn. (25 stitches)
Row 3: Single crochet in each stitch across, chain 1 turn (25 stitches)

Repeat fows 2-3 until desired length.

To block, I used a padded, gridded and ruled purchased board (for quilting). I pin the finished block onto the grid to an 8 inch square. Then I spritz with a spray bottle of water until damp and let dry. Voila--a perfect 8 inch block.
